Baldur’s Gate 3 is generous — nearly every class can clear Tactician. But these six builds are broken, trivialising fights that should take ten turns.
1. Open-Hand Monk / Thief Rogue
The ‘Tavern Brawler’ build. Four unarmed attacks per turn at level 6. Add Strength Elixirs (21 STR free from the Goblin Camp) and you one-shot bosses.
- Split: Monk 9 / Rogue 3
- Feats: Tavern Brawler first, then Alert.
- Race: Githyanki (Misty Step is free mobility)
2. Light Cleric 1 / Sorcerer 11
Light Cleric’s Warding Flare keeps you alive; Sorcerer gives you twinned Haste on the party. End-game: Chain Lightning every turn + quickened Scorching Ray.
- Split: Cleric 1 / Sorcerer 11 (take Sorcerer first level for robes)
- Feats: Alert, Elemental Adept (Lightning)
3. Swords Bard 10 / Fighter 2
Action Surge + slashing Flourish = 8 attacks in a single round. Add Risky Ring from Act 3 — crits everywhere.
- Race: Half-Elf (medium armour proficiency for free)
- Feats: Sharpshooter, Archery Fighting Style
4. Moon Druid solo
Owlbear form is unreasonable. 42 HP of disposable HP pool, and Crushing Flight deals knockdown damage. At level 10 you unlock Myrmidon elementals — each one is a walking boss.
5. Abjuration Wizard / Fighter 2
Arcane Ward makes you immune to death. With War Caster + Shield reaction, you cannot be hit. Perfect for tanky casters.
6. Assassin / Gloomstalker Ranger 5
The one-turn wonder. Alert + Gloomstalker + Assassin means you always go first with three attacks at advantage and auto-crit. Solo-kills bosses from stealth.
- Split: Gloomstalker 5 / Assassin 4 / Fighter 3
- Feats: Sharpshooter, Alert
- Equipment: Longbow of the Sharpshooter (Act 2)
General build tips
- Always buy Potions of Speed from Dammon in Last Light — 4-turn Haste without concentration.
- Don’t sleep-skip long rests — many companion scenes only trigger after specific camp rests.
- Respec is free at Withers after Act 1. Don’t be precious about build choices early.
- Multiclass at level 5, not before — Extra Attack / 3rd-level spells are the real power spikes.
Final note on difficulty
Tactician is the intended experience, but Honour Mode (one save, dice go wild on Legendary Actions) is where the real challenge is. Any of these builds can clear Honour — but the Thief Monk is the most forgiving.
